Blood & Bile

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The dead have risen from their graves, and the zombie apocalypse is now at hand. Your hometown has been overrun, and who knows how the rest of the world is faring? But here’s the twist: you aren’t some weak and puny mortal; you’re a vampire, a terrifying creature of the night. You were resting when the outbreak started, but now you’re awake, and your food source is being wiped out—so what are you going to do about it?

Blood & Bile is a narrative, lightweight RPG of emergent storytelling, where vampires manage their human resources in a world that’s fallen to the zombie horde. The reader is presented with a sandbox-style scenario that can be played with or without a Game Master, requiring no preparation and minimal bookkeeping.

You will need a mixture of red, green, and blue d6s—three dice for rolling on the oracle tables, and five dice for each player. You’ll also need about half a dozen white d6s to represent human survivors.

Even if a vampire only wants to drink one die worth of blood, there's a 1 in six chance of killing the human. They also lose a die every night they don't feed. So, on average, a vampire has to kill about a person every six days. These are brutal creatures!

The human only dies if they roll lower than the number of dice the vampire recovered, so if the vampire consumes a single die the worst-case scenario (rolling 1 on the d6) would leave the human unconscious. However, the whole thing is fairly abstracted, as a group of survivors would generally be represented by a single die.

Hi, I have a rules question: it appears that players will lose dice over the course of the campaign. How are they regained, if at all?

Hi Jim. The size of the dice pool represents the vampire's remaining blood, and lost trait dice can be recovered by feeding on mortals, as described in the "Mortals" section at the bottom of Page 5.

Thank you. I am embarrassed I had to ask for rules clarification on a 2nd edition for a 10 page game... :-P

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
