650 Fantasy City Encounter Seeds & Hooks
by Margaret E. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/11/2012 13:35:40

I think I've read 150 out of 650 so far, there are so many! The variety is excellent, and it seems to me that some of those "encounter" seeds could be the beginning of a different adventure, just fleshed out to be a full one, perhaps adding other seeds from this module. A lot of variety here!

As a role-player for over 35+ years, I feel I am an adequate judge of good materials and I have used many supplements in my games. Any supplemewnt that lightens the GM's load and makes it easier to run the ganme and enteratain the players is an asset in my book and this supplement does those things. Pleaase don't hesitate to get this supplement.

How to Find Gamers => Filling the Empty Chair
by William W. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/20/2011 13:33:03

A collection of tips and tools for finding new people to play with. Lots of great ideas here, many of them culled from the long-running newsletter Roleplaying Tips. Includes a list of the better roleplayer registry sites, and a list of 28 Ways to Find a Game Group or Recruit New Players. Some are the tips are pretty common sense items, but many of them were ideas that I had never thought of before, and at least one that I'm thinking about trying out soon.

It's always great finding products to assist me in making my adventures more interesting and unexpected. Also, I think this will come n very handy for those nights when some players can't make it and I need to generate something quick for everyone else.

650 Fantasy City Encounter Seeds & Hooks

Any GM who's written their own adventures knows that it is a lot harder to write an engaging evening's play in a city than it is to have the players merrily romp around a wilderness, poking around ruins and lairs. For those of you out there who share my pain, this FREE download is just what you need. I have given this 5 stars, but not because all of the seeds and hooks are of the same standard (admittedly, some are a bit ropey and cliched...), but because even if you discount half of them and use 10 different ones of the remainder in each urban adventure you write, you will still have produced 16 amazing adventures. Even after just glancing through this download, a number of the plot hooks started churning and combining in my brain to form some pretty novel and challenging adventures. Now that I've read through the whole thing, I want to stop writing this review and start writing my next adventure...

650 Fantasy City Encounter Seeds & Hooks

Simple and sweet. Many of the 'hooks' could simply be ignored ( not acted upon ) by your players but it will had flavor and life to the city. A quick scan of some encounters during a game, will take only a moment, so as to NOT interrupt game flow. After a few minutes of reading , I now have 2 very solid 'adventures' in mind.

Getting good hooks into a campaign is always tricky, a dungeon is a dungeon. A city on the other hand is a vibrant place, full of possibilities and opportunites.

So how do you get a group of players to stick around in town; longer then it takes to restock on magic items? Here is a list of 650 encounters or hooks that will keep you going for a long time. What started life as a competition, has now become a free publication that will help many a GM.

Some of them are as simple as one sentence, others are more detailed that could lead to a whol city adventure; over several sessions. There is plenty of scope to combine ideas or improvise on the ones included. A good resource to have, that could be applied to many game settings.

GM Mastery: NPC Essentials
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/27/2007 00:00:00

At $8.50, this is getting expensive for a pdf, but the product delivers. Don?t let the D20 label fool you-this isn?t the usual OGL superficial fluff. In fact, the material is only nominally D20 oriented.

What you get is 58 pages of text, 14 of charts, and 6 of blank forms.

The texts has depth-it looks very hard at organizing NPCs and giving them a living role in your campaign. Its not your usual gaming fluff written by second-rate writers for munchkin players; this is a serious and practical look at creating, using, and managing NPCs. The points may be familiar to those who have experienced training in acting, but but to me, it was one of the best supps I?ve gotten in 25+ years of gaming.

LIKED: Everything

DISLIKED: Nothing

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
I've been a subscriber for Johnn Four's RPTips for ages and having it all set up nicely to browse through and find what you're looking for easier. There is still some hunting to do but this is well worth the money.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
GM Mastery: NPC Essentials
by Christopher S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/04/2006 00:00:00

This product is far and away one of the best purchases I have made on RPGNOW. I have commented on a number of quality documents and supplements, but none compare to this with regard to value and usefulness.

I am, as many are, a very busy GM without the time to give as much thought to NPC generation as I would like. But, I do have the opportunity to sit and read a supplement like this for a few minutes at a time and digest what I've read as I drive to and from work.

"NPC Essentials" guides the reader through a number of different NPC creation methods and gives them a lot to think about! Well done.

I make it a policy to never give anything I review five stars, unless I believe that it is perfect. This document is perfect.

LIKED: I like all of it, but in particular, I like the opening chapters on NPC design most of all. They talk about important elements such as determining an NPC's power base and the details a GM should include to make them memorable. Additionally, the Chapter on Roleplaying NPC's goes into such wonderful depth - even going into a brief discussion on voice acting!

DISLIKED: There is nothing about this product I didn't like.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
I have to say this is a good product. It really helps you think about different angles when designing your NPC's.

It also has a nice layout of different catagories for recording information. It is worth the purchase at the price.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
GM Mastery: NPC Essentials

Wow, this one is incredible. I was a bit ashamed at how much better I could be running my games, and how much quicker I could plan them. (I don't suck either, all my players prefer me to their old GM's) A lot of stuff is organizational and very helpful for newer GM's and even stuff I thought was common sense I feel they gave me a bit better method for. This book on one reading will improve your planning and campaign quality. It's under $10 and I'd estimate one of the best bargains you'll find.

LIKED: Everything. Highlight being the organization of creating great NPC's.

DISLIKED: hmm... nothing.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Very helpful. For an inexperienced DM like myself this has been as useful as the core rule books. See Likes and Dislikes for specifics.

LIKED: The new ideas. Tips on how to bring NPCs to life by giving them backgrounds, motivations, and secrets. Tips on how to "act" an NPCs part. The tables in the appendix are useful "as is" and act as a spring-board for new ideas.

DISLIKED: Didn't seem to explain the NPC character sheets at the end of the PDF or directly relate them to the content. A few more concrete examples in each section would be nice.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
