I just finished reading through the manual, and was thoroughly impressed overall! The ruleset sits somewhere between a philosophical self referential game (such as Hofstadter's 'Nomic'), and a freeform roleplaying game. Let me say that I have read hundreds of RPG rulesets in my life, and Mythic immedietely bumped itself up into my 'top 5'! In my opinion it lives up to the author's claims, but this is definantly a love it or hate it sort of system.

LIKED: Novelty, simplicity, practicality.

DISLIKED: No forum on the Mythic website to chat with other mythic players :^)

 • Some of the art leaves a bit to be desired.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Mythic is... hmm. Mythic is hard to descibe. It is an idea of how to run games that require imagination and a logical amount of cohesion, without relying on someone to "run" the game and play all the npc/monster parts. The idea is called a G.M emulator, and our group has found it has transformed our roleplaying.... everything. It has changed our style of combat, of interacting with "npc's", our expectations of reward, our goals and motives, our characters needs and wants, etc. I will say this, do not use this supplement lightly. You may not be able to return to G.M. run games after this. Our group loves the way play flows. Even if your not in the combat, your directly involved in how it proceeds -if you choose to be. If your not in the market while someone else is making purchases, you still participate as much as if you were there, if you want to. There is no downtime for anyone if they want to participate. The system does take some getting used to.(!) By our third session everyone had a good idea of how to play, and by the fourth we were in deep against a mastermind mage who had already manipulated one nobles death for reasons that are just plain evil. I love knowing there is no ref who knows the secrets and leads us along. The system itself can provide a deeper playing experience than you would otherwise get with only one persons ideas running a world, but there is a heavy price. The group must be able to agree on terms of the world, and the people at the table have to participate. Make no mistake, without a group that has the ability to open their mouths to say more than -is it my turn to swing?- this system will fail. If you try this system and can't seem to make it flow, please hang in there. It's tough making the transition to group/system terms of G.M.ing. It's worth the effort.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
A very interesting game, which I have been using to participate as a player in the Lonewolf RPG. The game system works very well and does meet the claims of the manufacturer. Grab this game whilst its cheap, its good value for money.

LIKED: The game sytem was quite good, with some conversion guides. The freedom to use the system as a whole or in parts.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Don't buy it for the resolution system (which is just OK), buy it for the "GM Emulation" concept and the campaign advice, which are ahead of their time. Good product--would have been better if it focused more on the GM Emulation, one of the grails of gaming.

Verrrry nice. I particularly like the random events generator. However, there is a lot of cheesecake art compared to, say, beefcake art. I guess for some that would be an added bonus. :)

This product is simply amazing. It is a roleplaying game all by itself and the system of using simple logic by asking yes/no questions to Mythic works wonders. It eliminates the GM completely if played with the right set of people.

I bought Mythic since I was interested in solo adventuring and Mythic can do that as well. It has supplied the tool to venture into the unknown... Highly recommended...!

The minute I'd read the description of this, I knew "I have to have that...". Mythic Role Playing is the most refreshing and innovative RPG I've seen in years. RPG without GM - a dream come true! Thank you guys, this is a winner!!!

Very good an excelent buy, if nothing else than for having the GM stuff to aid in preping/running other games.

A very well thought out game system. Works well on its own, or as a stand in GM or GM's assistant for any other game system. I like the fact that once I get my players use to the new system I will be able to play as well! Worth checking out.

Although I have not yet used Mythic as a full RPG yet, my group has started using it to generate adventures for our Ars Magica game. So far we have been delighted with the results. In my opinion Mythic works very well with systems like Ars Magica where the players have more opportunity to influence the story line. Everyone loves the fact that they can all play for a change. We also found it useful for deciding questions and creating rules for situations which might not be covered by the Ars Magica rules themselves. As per the Mythic suggestions/guidelines, these then become part of our game and we record them on the sheets provided with Mythic.

All in all i would suggest Mythic to GMs who are tired of GMing or just want a system for generating plots on the fly (or beforehand). This was just my 2 cents, it might not be to everyone's liking.
